Cast Iron BBQ Sauce Cookies

Cast Iron BBQ Sauce Cookies

A cast iron cookies recipe with BBQ sauce? This one's a winner - only try it if you're ready for people asking for more!

You Will Need

The Prep

Step one, making the cookie dough! Melt the butter in a large bowl. You can do this in the microwave on High setting for 1 minute, then add 30 seconds at a time until melted. Make sure the bowl is microwave safe.

Cookie Ingredients

Once melted, let the butter cool down. Then add the BBQ sauce, 2 cups sugar and eggs, and beat well. Set aside.

In a different bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and spices. Add this to the butter mixture, and beat until the flour is fully incorporated. Refrigerate the dough for several hours, until firm.

The Cook

Step two, preparing your pit: For this recipe, light the charcoal, then arrange it around the edge of your grill/kettle. This way, the center of your cooking area will not have any heat directly under it, but will benefit from radiant heat on all sides.

Cookies in Cast Iron Skillet on grill

Depending on what you're cooking on, you can also set up the pit for good ol' 2-zone cooking.

Let the temp climb up to 325-350ºF (163-177ºC), and you're good to go.

While the grill is heating up, separate the dough into portions, and shape into small balls. Roll these in sugar.

Once ready, place the dough balls in a cast iron skillet, and bake on the grill for 8 to 10 minutes (or to your desired crispiness!)

The Payoff

That's all, ladies and gents - you've got yourself a winner! Make a game out of letting your friends & family guess the ingredients - the BBQ sauce is there, but most won't be able to put their finger on it...
